Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Tressa @ Wishful Endings to spotlight the books we can’t wait to read. Typically, these books are yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, which was previously hosted by Breaking the Spine.
This week, I’m spotlighting a book from the romance genre: The Switch by Beth O’Leary.
Book Information
Title: The Switch
Author: Beth O’Leary
Length: 400 pages
Publisher: Quercus
Expected Publication Date: April 30, 2020
Goodreads Synopsis
Eileen is sick of being 79.
Leena’s tired of life in her twenties.
Maybe it’s time they swapped places…When overachiever Leena Cotton is ordered to take a two-month sabbatical after blowing a big presentation at work, she escapes to her grandmother Eileen’s house for some overdue rest. Eileen is newly single and about to turn eighty. She’d like a second chance at love, but her tiny Yorkshire village doesn’t offer many eligible gentlemen.
Once Leena learns of Eileen’s romantic predicament, she proposes a solution: a two-month swap. Eileen can live in London and look for love. Meanwhile Leena will look after everything in rural Yorkshire. But with gossiping neighbours and difficult family dynamics to navigate up north, and trendy London flatmates and online dating to contend with in the city, stepping into one another’s shoes proves more difficult than either of them expected.
Leena learns that a long-distance relationship isn’t as romantic as she hoped it would be, and then there is the annoyingly perfect – and distractingly handsome – school teacher, who keeps showing up to outdo her efforts to impress the local villagers. Back in London, Eileen is a huge hit with her new neighbours, but is her perfect match nearer home than she first thought?
Why I’m Excited for It
I love Beth O’Leary. I’ve previously raved about O’Leary’s previous work, The Flatshare (2019), and I love how she just hits the right mix of humor, angst, and character development. I’m beyond happy that she released another novel so soon and I hope she never suffers from writer’s block and keeps publishing books every year for the next 7142682 years because her novels are an absolute gift to the world.
Is this work on your TBR? What book releases are you looking forward to? Let me know in the comments, or feel free to leave a link to your own Can’t-Wait Wednesday post! I’d love to hear about it.

I can’t wait to read this one!
Aaaah I know!! I’m so looking forward to it too!
I didn’t read The Flatshare, but this sounds really fun. Time to investigate!
I would LOVE to read your reviews of either of these books, though I think O’Leary is very, very light on the smut.
I can’t wait to read The Switch! Thank you for reminding me, I hope it’s as good as The Flatshare 🙂
I hope so too!! I’d look forward to your thoughts as well if you do get a copy. I freaking adore O’Leary.
Ah, I also loved The Flatshare! Such engaging and funny writing whilst also having hidden depths. This one is on my Goodreads TBR and I’m excited to get to it!
The Flatshare was excellent! To be honest, the synopsis of this one isn’t something that immediately appealed, so I added it to my TBR based on how much I loved The Flatshare. I can’t wait!
